How might we re-envision the food and textiles industries through circularity? CoLab, IDEO’s platform for collaborative impact, believes it’s by bringing diverse stakeholders together. As a part of CoLab’s Circular Economy portfolio, leaders from different organizations work side-by-side to drive a more regenerative future. Though often seen as competitors, CoLab members engage as peers during week-long design sprints.

Rather than only discussing ideas around a table, CoLab members focus on building physical prototypes that make intangible concepts concrete and validate new ideas for circularity. This mentality and the members’ various skill sets—from sourcing to distribution, packaging to retail, waste to finance, and more—help them design circular prototypes that are ready to be taken to market faster than traditional R&D methods.
